When You’re Just Not Feelin’ It

Not Feelin It

You know those people. The ones that are smiling and happy and chipper 24/7 and nothing can phase them. It’s like they carry sunshine in their pockets and never run out. I am not one of those people, and chances are neither are you. Sometimes we’re just not feelin’ it.

If this picture looks like an accurate representation of you, it may be time for a break.

This is ‘Murica, and we like to go hard and fast to reach our high goals and expectations. Sometimes we forget that our minds and bodies only have so much fuel for one single day. Running like this constantly results in an almost inevitable burnout, and possibly a meltdown.

We don’t want you goin’ all Britney on us.

Not Feelin it 2

Before you pull out the clippers, take a moment to decide what kind of break you need. Is it a jam-packed day full of assignments or appointments or work that you feel like you’ll never get done? Set an alarm at work and walk away every hour or two. Grab a cup of coffee, text someone that you love them, or watch a funny youtube video in the break room. Then focus everything you’ve got on work while you’re in it.

Are you in a season of tiring, difficult work that you know will end soon (i.e. a semester or project at work)? If so, you may just need a day to re-coop. Schedule out your time to allow yourself a day off somewhere in there. You’ll be surprised at how much more you will accomplish afterward.

Is life just fast-paced and always busy? Maybe a vaca is in order. It may seem impossible to take a few days off from your crazy schedule, but doing so may just keep you sane. Your work will always be there. Take some time to really enjoy life, before it passes you by.

If breaks and vacas just aren’t doing it for you, you may consider restructuring. Is there anything in your life you could do without? What is causing you the most stress, and is it worth it? Life is too short to be spent behind a desk or clocked in for too long. Your life is meant to be shared and enjoyed, so make sure you have enough time to enjoy it!
