Happy World No Tobacco Day!

By this point in your life, you’ve probably heard a thousand times that tobacco is bad for you and will most likely cause cancer and a bunch of other nasty diseases like emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, all of which make it REALLY hard to breathe and can lead to your eventual demise. In fact, smoking kills enough people to fill Lucas Oil Stadium 7 times every year!

Think smoking only affects those who smoke? Think again. An additional 53,000 thousand people die from secondhand smoke every year. That’s enough to fill the IU Memorial Stadium! Plus, your cat or dog is more likely to develop cancer if you smoke.

In addition to all of the health risks, you’ll spend a lot of money smoking. How much money? Over $1 million in your lifetime. This isn’t just from buying a pack of cigarettes every day either. Smokers have higher health care costs because of all of the diseases associated with smoking, and make on average eight percent less than their nonsmoking coworkers. Think of what else you could do with $1 million:

4 million Snack Pack puddings

220,0000 tall pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks

3,921 front row Beyonce tickets for The Formation Tour

1,200 pairs of Louis Vuitton high heels

89 Premium tickets to Super Bowl LI

28 backpacking trips around the world

17 Corvettes

So I challenge you to save your money, respect your body, your neighbor, and even your best furry friend, and not smoke.
