Happy Best Friend Day!
When we were in elementary school we may have made the mistake of labeling everyone in our lives that we hung out with as our “best friend”. As we get older, we realize that being a best friend is more than just the casual outing to the mall, playing video games together, or being invited to someone’s exclusive sweet sixteen party. Carrying the honorable title of BFF can be, at times, emotionally draining; however, if you’re a true best friend you take this in stride, and don’t mind the “work” that it takes. As someone’s best friend, you understand what you have signed up for and are in it for the long haul! With that being said, these are the 5 things your best friend wants you to know:
When they say it straight to you, they aren’t trying to be mean.
They don’t tell you things to be judgmental, but they see it as their duty to tell you the things that you need to hear. You love them for this, even if what they say is hard to listen to.
They enjoy going out of their way to help you.
Don’t hesitate to ask for help because they will always be there for you.
They are reliable and will pick up the phone at 3 am if they need to.
They are there for you 24/7 no matter how far away they may be. Whether it is in-person or over-the-phone, they are always there to lend support.
They see the value in YOU and don’t look for all the flaws.
They have seen you at your best and worst times and can appreciate your growth.
They want you to live a long and healthy life so you can be best friends for forever.
They will encourage you to change risky behaviors and point you in the right direction if you need help. They don’t do this to be a party pooper, they do it so you can best friends forever!
Keeping these 5 things that your best friend wants you to know in mind, it is also good to remember that these types of friends do not come along every day. We rely on them so much, so it is also up to us to reciprocate the time, energy, and love that is given by our besties!
