How to Stay Sane During Finals

The last week of school is finally upon us. Which means the worst week of the school year is finally here.

Finals week.

Hopefully you’ve stayed up on your school work and studying and don’t have to cram a semester’s worth of material into your brain to pass a class. If you weren’t the most studious of students during the semester or are up against an incredibly difficult exam, here’s a helpful list to ensure you stay sane during finals week.

  1. Lay off the alcohol. For some people, cracking open a beer or sipping on a glass of wine while studying is relaxing. If you have the self control to only drink one, then do it. If not, steer clear. Drinking a lot of alcohol during finals week will have a number of negative repercussions on your body that will make it difficult for you to be on your A-game for that exam (i.e. sleeping, memory loss). Save the celebrating for after you finish your finals, when you can celebrate properly (in moderation of course).
  1. Sleep! This is where a lot of people miss the boat in my opinion. Sleeping will be much more beneficial than staying up all night and studying. The best thing you can do is close the books and make sure you get a good night’s sleep. A lack of sleep makes it hard to concentrate come test time and you’re less likely to remember all of that information you tried to cram in your brain the night before.
  1. Eat well. It’s sooooo easy to rely on Btownmenus or Mother Bears to feed you that week. I mean, who really wants to worry about cooking food and doing dishes when you have five tests to study for? I’m not saying you must cook every meal, but you should be paying close attention to what you’re putting into your body and making sure what you’re eating is nutritious. These super foods will help you do your best on that test while keeping your energy levels high and your mood in check.
  1. Make sure you take time for self-care. Studying 24/7 isn’t healthy, so be sure you’re taking a decent amount of time to do something that you enjoy. Whether that’s baking, watching a Netflix series (don’t get stuck binging though!), exercising, or whatever it is that relaxes you! Also, don’t under estimate spending time with friends!

Now get out there and rock those tests!
